Recorrer los 2,4 km de ancho del cráter congelado
del volcán Puyehue es desafiar a la naturaleza. Su
cono colapsado forma parte del complejo volcánico
Puyehue-Cordón Caulle, ubicado entre las regiones
de Los Ríos y Los Lagos.

El crepúsculo tiñe de rojo todo lo que nos rodea y
el zorro chilla (Lycalopex griseus), una de las tres
especies de zorros endémicos que habita en Chile,
avanza por los márgenes de los dominios del Caulle.
Este cánido silvestre, de tamaño medio, alcanza un
largo máximo de 90 cm, sin contar su cola que puede
medir hasta 36 cm. Es un cazador oportunista que
se alimenta de pequeños roedores, conejos, aves,
reptiles, insectos y la carroña que encuentre; sin
embargo, esta especie optimiza su alimentación,
seleccionando sus presas durante los períodos de
abundancia y escasez.
Touring the 2,4 km wide of the Puyehue Volcano
frozen crater is to defy nature. Its collapsed cone is
part of the Puyehue-Cordón Caulle volcanic complex,
located between Los Ríos and Los Lagos Regions.

Chilla fox (Lycalopex griseus), one of the three types of
endemic foxes that can be found in Chile, advances on
the margins of the Caulle area. This wild, medium sized
caenide. It can be 90 cm long, without considering its
tail that can be as long as 36 cm. The Chilla fox is an
opportunistic predator, that feeds from small rodents,
rabbits, birds, reptiles, insects and whatever carrion
they may find. This species optimizes its diet, selecting
its prey during periods of plenty and shortage.
