El golpe de la embarcación contra la ribera nos indica
que hemos llegado a Trumao, localidad que fue
protagonista del desarrollo socioeconómico de esta
zona desde mediados del siglo XIX e inicios del siglo
XX. Trumao o trumag, como la llamó el pueblo Huilliche,
albergó la primera casa comercial de los inmigrantes
vasco-franceses en el sector de Puerto Viejo, la cual
funcionó como centro de depósito de la mercadería que
salía e ingresaba de La Unión y Río Bueno.
Desde Puerto Viejo, apreciamos en lo alto la tradicional
Iglesia de la Misión de Trumao, construida en el
siglo XVIII, producto del tratado entre los principales
caciques huilliches y los españoles presentes en
la zona. Este convenio establecía el cese de las
invasiones militares a las comunidades a cambio
de la construcción de estas misiones católicas. La
edificación incluyó el uso de nobles maderas como
alerce, coigüe, canelo, ciprés y mañío, lo cual evidencia
la pericia de los antiguos constructores locales.
Actualmente recorrer este lugar significa un viaje en
el tiempo que da cuenta del importante patrimonio
sociocultural de la zona.

Misión de Trumao Church, built in the 18 century

as a consequence of the treaty between the main
Huilliche chieftains and the Spaniards present in the
area. This agreement established the cease of military
invasions against the communities, in exchange of the
construction of these Catholic missions. This building
included the use of noble wood such as larch, canelo,
cypress and mañío, which is evidence of the skill of the
local constructors of old. Nowadays, touring this place
is a time travel that accounts for the relevant social and
cultural heritage of the area.
